Accra’s Marine Drive Steals the show this December
It’s official, people! Ghana has claimed its throne as the ‘Miami of Africa.’ This Christmas (or should we say Detty December) was a huge success. For those unfamiliar with the term, ‘Detty December’ refers to the Christmas season in Ghana, where locals, tourists, and people from the diaspora assemble for a month-long celebration of music, food, culture and festivities. And this year, the location for the Accra Marine Drive Development project was at the center of it all.
The stretch of land from the Osu Christianborg Castle to the Arts Center hosted two of the season’s most electrifying music concerts: AfroNation and the Black Star Line Festival. These events brought in some of the biggest names in music and entertainment worldwide. The atmosphere was unparalleled, the energy was off the charts, and the vibe was unbeatable.
These events were a massive hit, attracting thousands of locals, tourists, and people from the diaspora, following in the footsteps of the Global Citizen Festival, hosted in the same location three months prior. A number of people believe the choice of using the Accra Marine Drive project as the location for these events contributed in no small way to the success of the events. It was the perfect and ideal location, owing to its blend of natural beauty and urban excitement, with the ocean as its backdrop and the bustling city just a stone’s throw away.
What we witnessed at these events was an indication of the untapped potential of Accra’s beachfront. It also gave us a sneak peek into what the Accra Marine Drive Development project will do for our entertainment and tourism scene. Once completed, the project will transform the 241 acres of Accra’s beachfront into an iconic attraction for tourists, local and foreign investors, and businesses. The redevelopment of the area is expected to create thousands of jobs and bring in money through more tourism and business.
Just imagine sipping refreshing coconut water while lounging on a pristine beach, surrounded by top-notch restaurants, lively entertainment venues and world-class facilities. Sounds like paradise, right? That’s what the Accra Marine Drive Development project aims to deliver. With the facelift of the beachfront, Accra will be better positioned to make an even bigger splash in the tourism industry.
The Accra Marine Drive Development project is not just a project; it’s a promise. A promise of a better future for Ghana’s tourism sector and a brighter, more vibrant city for its residents. So, let’s raise a glass (of coconut water, of course) to Ghana and the Accra Marine Drive Development project. The future looks bright, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store. Who knows, this time in a few years, we might be calling Accra Marine Drive the ‘Entertainment Capital of Accra.’
Until then, let’s enjoy the journey and look forward to the spectacular end result. Cheers!
