Demolishing And Relocation Of Government Agencies (Phase 2)
With the coming on board of the Office of Head of Civil Service to effectively coordinate the Marine Drive relocation exercise of the MDAs to the Ghana House and other locations, the prolonged jostling and haggling with some institutions, squatters’ safe haven and apparent wait and see tactics had come to ground zero.
On Thursday, 17th July, 2019, earth-moving machinery descended on the main site and commenced a demolishing exercise at the beaches behind independence square to pave way for the project to fully take off.
The Marine Drive Tourism Investment Project whose sod was cut by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on 7th December 2017, is expected to cost US$1.2Bn and will change the face of Ghana’s tourism industry while it will create thousands of jobs directly and indirectly in both the catchment area and the Country as a whole whilst raking in millions of dollars as revenue for the government.
The project which is anchored on the vision of changing the face of tourism in Ghana, when completed will feature hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, cultural village, recreational centers, malls and convention centers.
Already, ahead of its implementation, the Marine Drive Tourism Investment Project is attracting high-net-worth investors, willing to partner government to develop the entire stretch of the land (approximately 241 acres) into a world-class, beachfront tourism enclave to meet the needs of business and leisure tourists, while making Ghana a preferred competitive and tourism destination in Africa.
The core objective of the project is to decongest the city center of non-conforming uses and reinstate a new land use structure benefiting the capital city, this will also intensify the use of land to be consistent with the urban regeneration framework.
The project will also ensure high values of land and also counteract the apparent scarcity of land in Accra.
The Marine Drive Project will also create an environment to attract high levels of investment in the city center for businesses and leisure purposes.
